Ellie at age 5 + birthday party

Ellie turned five on February 5th and I asked Steven for any input on what to write about her and he wrote this...

Ellie is five. That’s mind-boggling to think about. It seems like just the other day that I got to hold you for the first time. Your small round face, your cute little toes, your full head of hair - you were perfect, at least to me. And since that day you’ve only grown more beautiful. Not only on the outside, but especially on the inside, and that’s what really matters. You’re so sweet and thoughtful. You’re careful and kind. Like when you kneel on your hands and knees so your little sister can climb on your back and reach the next rise at the play place. When you make cards and draw pictures for your friends and family. When you pray for babies to be born safely and be healthy and strong. When you set a place at the table for your stuffed Panda or Goosey doll. When you read your sister a story even though you can’t read yet. Yes, your eyes are gorgeous and your smile is to die for, but the most beautiful thing about you is not something you can see on the outside, it’s the things I can see that come from the inside. It’s the way that you care and the way you love. Those things come from your heart, and God has made your heart so very beautiful.

I asked Ellie the following questions (my input is in parenthesis)...

What is your favorite color? Red and purple.

What is your favorite food? Bananas, strawberries, raspberries, and salad! I eat a lot of salad! (She certainly does like her fruit, but I was expecting her to say McDonald's. Pretty much any time we ask where she wants to eat she says McDonald's. So I asked her this question a different way as well..
Where do you like to eat out at? McDonald's. (There ya go.)

What is your favorite TV show? Elena of Avalor.

What is your favorite movie? Toy Story 2. (Honestly if I were to ask her a couple days from now it would be a different answer.)

What is your favorite game? Princess Matching Game. (She also really enjoys Spot It, Candy Land and Chutes and Ladders.)

What is your favorite animal? Zebra, giraffe, penguins - how they swim (we have them at our Zoo and she cracks up every time they zoom by the glass swimming.) And I'd want a cat for a pet. Maybe I would like a penguin for a pet sometime, too. (ha) (And I think this answer would change if I asked her in a few days as well.)

What is your favorite song? The Trolls song. ("Can't Stop the Feeling" by Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick) and ooh ooh song ("I Don't Care" by Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber. What she really likes about the song is the 'ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh' part).

Who is your best friend? Declyn and Elliana. (These are two girls she's been in preschool with the last couple years. They get so giddy around each other, it's really cute.)

What is your favorite thing to do outside? Swimming, splash pad, water table. (As you might be able to tell she loves water activities. She loves summer and every day she'd ask to go outside and do one, some or all of these things. And I can tell she's looking forward to this summer a lot!)

What is your favorite holiday? Christmas, Halloween and Independence Day! (She likes all the presents and candy! HA!)

Who is your favorite stuffed animal? Pandy (a Panda she bought on her own for the first time from Panda Express a few weeks ago. She'd been wanting to buy one for a while after she saw it there and the next time we went there she wanted to bring her money and get one. She has basically slept with it every time since). And Chocolate (a Ty baby brown moose...Chocolate Moose...get it?!? ; ).

What do you want to be when you grow up? A doctor. (She has been saying this for probably a year. Sometimes she says she wants to be a doctor for kids. Also, her dad is an x-ray technologist and she says she wants to work at the same hospital as her dad.)

What is your favorite thing to do with dad? Play. (She certainly loves her dad and I'm pretty sure she thinks he's more fun than me...which I won't argue with. Let me brag on Steven for a second - He is an amazing dad and it melts my heart every time he gets on their level and horses around with his daughters on a regular basis. We are so grateful for how many days he gets off and the quality time we get with him is not taken for granted. There are many days that look the same, but the memories we're making are priceless.)

What is your favorite thing to do with mom? Play matching games.

What is your favorite thing to do with Paige? Dress up as ballerinas and princesses. (She wasn't too sure what her favorite thing to do with her was at first, but then I kind of helped her by giving her some examples of what they do pretty often together and she picked this. They are still learning how to get along and they bicker a lot. Paige always wants to do what Ellie is doing and Ellie likes her space. They are different in a lot of ways and play different, but like I said, they are learning to get along.)

What is your favorite book? Mystery books. (We've been reading chapter books to her for over a year. I was surprised that she picked them from her shelf starting at such a young age and actually sticks with finishing them. Some of the most recent ones have been a couple of my old Adventures of Mary-Kate and Ashley and a Nancy Drew book we got from the library. Ellie is intrigued by the cases they are solving and tries to guess partway through who did what.)

What is your favorite thing to play with? Legos. (True. She really enjoys a couple sets she has; building, taking apart, building again and sometimes gets creative altering them a little the next time she puts it together. And she enjoys the basic legos, making her own creations. She also goes through paper like no other, always drawing and making cards - we love seeing what sweet pictures she comes up with.)

What do you do really well? Ballet. (Dancing is a common activity she does. Any skirt or dress that twirls well is a plus, too.)

What do you enjoy learning about? All kinds of things. (She really does have an interest in a lot of things!)

What makes you happy? Friends. (She is always asking to have a play date and is so happy when she's with her friends.)

What makes you sad? When something gets lost. (This doesn't happen too often thankfully!)

These will be fun to look back on when she's older and I think I'll ask the same questions over the next few years to see how they evolve.

Here's a little glimpse at her birthday party. Though I had hoped to capture some more shots of things, I just got wrapped up in all the birthday activities and socializing. So most of these photos are from other people's phones! And for several months prior to her birthday she picked the swan princess theme from the Target party aisle and stuck with wanting that - so swan princess it was!

^ In the party aisle at Target there was this pinata and Ellie requested we get it for her party. She had never experienced one before but was really excited to have it at her party!

^ My bestie Shaina offered to make cookies for the party and they were sweet and yummy!

^ Holding her youngest friend Rosie (almost 3 months old)!

^ I didn't get a photo of the cake close up, however, Dairy Queen did a wonderful job copying the invitation.

^ I love how we captured her blowing the candles with her jaw out like this.

^ Ellie was the first to hit the pinata (that tongue, ha). She wasn't the one to open it but everyone who wanted a turn got to go and the person to hit it last was the one who opened it! Seeing the kids swarm the ground to get the goodies was priceless! They cleaned to floor up so fast!

These are her two best friends from school I mentioned above.
Declyn on the left and Elliana in the middle.

^ I also wanted to note this photo taken at Red Lobster. Last year we went there for her birthday and she requested to go there again this year. I think she wants to make it a tradition. Plus, I think the highlight is the sundae she gets! ; ) She didn't get as bashful when the servers sang to her either! (Something we noticed about her this last year is the fact she blushes when she's embarrassed.)

Family Photos October 2019

Can't believe it has taken me this long to post our family photos from OCTOBER! At least I'm finally doing it now!
This was our first time having Kelsey Perkins photograph us, though I had anxiously been wanting to use her for quite awhle. I love her work and I love these images she captured of our family. Sure it would have been nice if Paige had cooperated better (smiling more), but at the same time it totally reflects her personality right now...which is a little stuborn and shy, ha! Ellie was allll smiles and her happy self. I'm so glad I have these to look back and see our family from this time. Plus, 5 years earlier when I was pregnant with Ellie our photographer picked this same trail head for our maternity photos and it just happened to be picked by Kelsey. There aren't any pictures in the exact same spot, but I just thought how much of a coincedence it was as our family is now complete - coming full circle; having photos done in same area when our family was starting to grow!

Love the top and bottom photo...the way the girls look at Steven (insert heart eyes).

^ She didn't hesitate to twirl that dress!

^ Flipped this girl down and up to try and sneak a smile - it worked!

Something we love about our city is the hiking trails and the view they can provide of the city.
